The Sonic pack from Black Diamond just came out. Built for active pursuits and featuring the brand’s ergoACTIV technology, it looks like a great option for day-hikes.
This new pack is a mid size 26L ideally suited for single day hiking and traveling with two side mesh pockets, hip-belt pockets but the most noticeable feature is the articulated hip-belt.
Mounted on a 3D pivot to allow for total freedom of motion called ergoACTIV, it is very similar to Beghaus’ bioflex system. During exercise the pivot will let your body move while keeping the load stable on your back. It’s also got hoops for trekking poles or ice axe and can accommodate a hydration bladder.
The Sonic in M size weights around 2 lbs 6 oz / 1.08 kg, which is not too bad considering the frame and the pivot and it is available in three colors: Sand, Cobalt and Coal.
