First footwear products from Arc’teryx now available

Announced last year during the summer Outdoor Retailer trade show, Arc’teryx is getting into the footwear segment this spring. There are five different models in this new collection: Bora GTX, Bora² GTX, Acrux, Acrux GTX and Acrux² GTX.

Common to all the models is the construction. We’ll start with the inner layer, a form fitting liner that is said to be highly breathable. They call it Adaptive Fit and in the GTX version, this liner uses a Gore-Tex membrane for water protection. Around that goes the single-piece PU coated thermolaminated upper. Its mission is to be highly abrasion resistant while being light and letting the foot move freely. From the pictures, it does look very minimalist, which is what the Canadien brand is usually aiming at, but we could have some concerns about the flexibility of said upper.

Finishing of with a Vibram outsole developed for the two different models, one approach specific with climbing zone and one for hiking with large lugs.

In their “²” versions, both models feature a removable Adaptive Fit liner which can be swapped for other liners. Three options are available at the moment, low, high and insulated.

Both the Arc’teryx Bora and Acrux are available in men and women. The Acrux FL, Acrux FL GTX and Acrux² FL GTX prices are £160, £175 and £225 respectively and £250 and £275 for the Bora and Bora². Some actual testing would be needed to tell how good those new shoes are but from experience, Arc’teryx gear is usually top of the line… and very expensive.
