Need power, get yourself a hydrogen reactor from Brunton

Brunton are one of the specialists in power sources for outdoor adventures. From spare batteries to high-efficiency solar panels, if you need to juice up some gadgets, they have a solution for you.

Their latest invention is a rather interesting apparel that takes hydrogen fuel cells to generate clean electricity. The concept is not new and is used in a lot of situation where a clean power source is need. However it is good to see this technology finding its way to more consumer products. Brunton are not the first to attempt to bring hydrogen fuel cell to the outdoor market but they are the first to our knowledge to make an apparel that uses directly hydrogen. You just place a hydrogen ‘core’ in the Hydrogen Reactor and it will start outputting 5V 2amp almost instantly.

One core is said to be able to fully recharge and Apple iPhone 5 to 6 times. Power is transferred through a standard USB port which makes it compatible with virtually any recent gadget, like tablets, GPSs, phones and headlamps.

Combing the hydrogen from the core with the oxygen in the air only produces water so this is completely environmentally friendly. Moreover Brunton will commercialize the Brunton Hydrolyser to recharge hydrogen cores, using just water. Recharging a core is said to cost around £4, a lot cheaper than the 15 AA batteries it will then be able to replace.

All this comes at a cost of course, £135 to be precise. The Hydrogen Reactor weights 216g with a core and measures 11.4 x 7.1 x 3.2cm. Lastly, it is covered by the UProof life-time warranty, ‘no questions asked’.
