Scarpa Phantom, high-quality climbing boots with a spiral zipper

Scarpa is back with new high-tech climbing gear! The 80-year-old brand from Italy (acronym for Associated Shoe Manufacturing Company of the Asolo Mountain Area in Italian), specialized in innovative products, has been introducing its latest boots. The Phantom Tech are a new series, replacing the Phantom Guide Boot in the brand’s catalog. One of the main additions of this new model is the spiral zipper, replacing a more traditional front zipper. Named Flexseal, this new technology does not impede your movement as it improves your ankle flexibility and allows for a more comfortable and safe climbing (combined with their full carbon sole stiffener). The boots are also entirely weatherproof thanks to the zipper, OutDry membrane and their mesh/aluminium shell.

The Scarpa Phantom Tech boots are versatile and fairly proficient in ice, mixed and alpine climbing. Weighing only 1.75 pounds for each boot, the Phantom Tech are particularly lightweight, considerably more than the Phantom Guide boots. Keeping in mind, however, that the Scarpa Phantom Tech are not cheap with their $750 retail price. The boots are to be released next winter, we will then have to wait so we can judge if they are worth their price.

Weight: 1.75lbs (830g)

Price: $749 (£479, €669)
