Amer Sports acquires tracking app Sports Tracker

Sports Tracker, pioneer in sport tracking applications for mobile has announced last Monday its acquisition by the giant Amer Sports.

They were the first, back in 2004, to create a training app for mobile devices. They are today one of the biggest smartphone app for tracking physical exercise in terms of user base. 2 million users log runs, bike rides, hikes and more on the platform every month.

Amer Sports is a giant in the sports industry. If the name does not sound familiar, think Salomon, Arc’Teryx, Mavic or Suunto. Both companies could benefit greatly of the deal with Sports Tracker bringing a huge number of potential clients, a great communication channel and a step in the consumer electronic business and Amer Sports having the financial backing, expertise and products to help them grow and expand.

Sports Tracker were saying on their blog:

We couldn’t be happier with this arrangement as it brings us endless possibilities to develop our service and products into a whole new level. We truly believe that we have only scratched the surface and have so much more to offer our users.

It is not impossible to see in the near future the Suunto Movescount app replaced by a custom version of what Sports Tracker offers today.
