Black Diamond makes Mountain Project App free

There are only a handfull of good apps about climbing around. And like most items in the different app stores, the good stuff is not free. That’s all about to change thanks to Black Diamond.

Moutnain Project, available for both Android and iOS, allows you to download on your phone routes from their 112,000+ collection. Through the app you can browse area guides, look at route pictures and read comments. This comprehensive database is now freely accessible thanks to the support of Black Diamond. In an effort to make climbing knowledge more accessible Black Diamond is subsidizing the $4.99 app. The partnership will also mean Mountain Project will receive more updates and features in the future.

The UI of the app is a bit sketchy and not everything is easy to access but the info is quite complete and they even have international areas. United Kingdom and Spain both have some of their best spots in the database but the bulk is definitely in the United States. Hopefully Black Diamond’s interest in Mountain Project well help more climber discover the app and contribute new routes.
