New ultra-lightweight climbing helmet from Petzl

Petzl presented this year, as part of the 2013 collection, a new concept of ultra-light helmet for climbing and mountaineering. Its blazing orange colour didn’t scare away awards either.

Named after the strong wind coming for the Sahara desert, the Sirocco helmet from Petzl is a mono-bloc construction of expanded polypropylene (the same stuff they put in cars on impact areas) with a minimal adjustment system. Its maximum weight of 165 g doesn’t make it less safe for the climber as it passes UIAA and CE climbing tests. The chin strap comes with a magnetic buckle allowing easy one handed operations.

The Sirocco received a “Gold award” at OutDoor in July this year and “Gear of Show” recently at OR summer market from Outside Magazine and will be available January 2013.
