Vasque have just announced that they will be showing off a new light backpacking boot at Winter Outdoor Retailer which takes place on the 23 – 26 of this month.
The new Vasque St. Elias GTX is a high ankle mountain boot targeted at the serious backpacker. The upper of the St. Elias GTX is made of leather but what sets it aside apparently are its midsole and outsole. The “technologically advanced” A.S.E. midsole is made of an EVA derivative said to be lightweight and abrasion resistant. The outsole is Vasque proprietary Vibram Frontier sole made of Vibram XS Trek rubber for better traction and special design to achieve “near approach shoe level grip”. The GTX in the name suggest it will also feature a Gore-Tex membrane for waterproofness.
