Nitro Pack from Black Diamond, on-the-go performance

Black Diamond is adding a new backpack to its Velocity Series. The Nitro is a 22L pack for day hikes and adventures.

Although the Nitro is new, it is hard to get exited about it. This is essentially a Sonar but smaller. Sure the reACTIV suspension on the shoulder straps and hip-belt is interesting. It works by connecting the straps with a low friction cable. When you pull on one, the other gets some slack, maintaining an even level on your shoulders.

The Open Air backpanel should also allow for better ventilation. The rest is the standard list of features you would expect: trekking pole/ice axe loops; front, side and hip-belt stretch pockets, Hydration sleeve. There is also a rain cover pocket, without rain cover.

All those normal features in a rather good-looking pack, it has to be said. The weight is a bit disappointing, 870g. For a 22L this is just average. Price $119/£89, available now.
