Polartec files patent infringement case against Pontetorto

Polartec announced in a recent press release its battle against Pontetorto and its German distributor Christian Weichert, Internationale Textilvertretungen GmbH for patent infringement.

The Massachusetts based company and inventor of the modern polar fleece is suing Italian based textile manufacturer Pontertorto over its Tecnostretch fabric. Filed with the German District Court in Dusseldorf, Polartec claims Pontetorto is infringing on its Europen patent No. EP 1 312 710 B1 directed to grid-back, knit construction textiles.

Innovation is the essence of the Polartec brand. Developing differentiated solutions and driving the entire industry forward requires a level of infrastructure and investment far in excess of the commitment from so-called fast followers

states Gary Smith, Polartec CEO.

Both fabric are similarly specced Nylon, Polyester and Spandex in a grid construction for some models. Pontetorto Tecnostretch also has the additional benefits of being Bluesign certified. They are used for hard-wearing, highly wicking  stretchable and warm mid-layers.
