Polartec releases new Alpha insulation garment

Polartec announced yesterday in a press release their new Alpha synthetic insulation which should start appearing in consumer products early next year.

This new and improved insulation focuses on warmth/weight ratio and versatility. It is marketed for non static outdoor activities where breathability is key. Of course like other synthetic insulation brand, Polartec think they can solve the problem of down insulation, namely it’s poor performance when wet and the less breathable down-proof fabric.

The Alpha insulation is said to be very compressible, light-weight and very stable so it can be layered with more breathable fabrics. It was originally developed for the U. S. Special Operations Forces and Polartec says the Alpha got the highest results in testing of its entires range of insulation products.

Polartec Alpha is a natural compliment to our existing layering system fabrics. It will function as outerwear or as an ideal mid layer under fabrics like Polartec® Power Shield® Pro or Polartec® NeoShell®. It packs small and can quickly recover from something as catastrophic as getting completely soaked while in the field

states Allon Cohne, Polartec Director of Marketing.

All the big names are on board to use the Polartec Alpha insulation in their upcoming products like The North Face, Mammut, Rab, Mountain Equipment, Vaude and a lot more.
