PrimaLoft P.U.R.E. insulation reduces CO2 by 48%

PrimaLoft Pure in Patagonia Nano

PrimaLoft are the latest performance textile manufacturer to further improve the sustainability of their manufacturing process.

The company have already been using “PCR” (Post-consumer recycled content) in their products since 2007, long before the recent trend.

They’ve now gone one step further by reducing their carbon emissions by an impressive 48% thanks to PrimaLoft P.U.R.E!

P.U.R.E. Genius

The pithy acronym stands for “Produced Using Reduced Emissions”, a proprietary manufacturing technique that greatly reduces CO2 output.

As experts in advanced material technologies, PrimaLoft’s commitment to responsibility drives our developments beyond the product level.

Over the past four years, we have been working towards manufacturing solutions that will drastically reduce carbon emissions. The result is a brilliant shift in our process, that will make a significant impact for the environment.

No More Hot Air

The major reduction in CO2 emissions comes from a new manufacturing process, which removes the need for high temperature ovens.

Normally, insulating materials are made by bonding fibres thermally using very high temperatures. This requires a lot of energy and thus results in a high carbon footprint.

P.U.R.E uses cool air instead of heat to fuse the fibres, thus greatly reducing the energy required, resulting in:

  • 48% reduction of Carbon Dioxide emissions*
  • 48,111 lbs of Carbon Dioxide reduction*
  • 438,617 miles of Carbon Dioxide savings – enough to drive around the earth 17.6 times*

PrimaLoft win Popular Science Award

With the new manufacturing process, PrimaLoft P.U.R.E is undoubtedly one of the most sustainable fabrics on the market.

It’s not surprising then that they’ve just won a Popular Science Award for innovation in the Sports and Outdoors category for 2020!

If that’s not enough of an accolade, vanguard of outdoor gear sustainability Patagonia have announced that they’ll be using PrimaLoft Insulation in their winter jackets from this season on.

We look forward to seeing more widespread adoption of PrimaLoft pure and other sustainable fabrics in 2021.
