Victorinox Alox Limited Edition 2021 Range Available

Victorinox have just released a very nice looking limited edition run of their classic Alox range for 2021.

The Alox range is made from embossed aluminium, which is then treated with a process known as ‘anodic oxidation’ to create an additional protective layer to prevent damage and corrosion.

The standard range simply has a functional metallic finish, but each year Victorinox release a short run for collectors anodised in a funky colour.

This year is orange. But not like the fruit, like a tiger! In the words of Victorinox:

For 2021 our Classic Alox Limited Edition has a radical new look, adorned with a revitalizing tiger orange shade that symbolizes power, enthusiasm and excitement. Slip this latest iteration of our trusty knife into your pocket and channel the spirit of the big cat: stealthy, confident and ready for snipping, filing or cutting.

Victorinox

The Original Swiss Army Knife

Victorinox are the makers of the original Swiss Army Knife, a whopping 130 years ago!

Karl Elsener formed the company in 1884 and began supplying the army with knives in 1891. He developed the iconic knife that we now know as “The Swiss Army Knife” in 1897 as “the Swiss Officer’s and Sports Knife”.

A testament to great design, the core design to the classic knives hasn’t changed in over a century.

I personally, have owned one for 25 years. I literally never leave the house without one, and have only ever had to replace them when they’ve been lost or stolen.

Probably there are now great alternatives available, possibly lighter, stronger, more options, but for me the Victorinox is a classic and I won’t be changing.

Alox Limited Edition 2021 Range

The Alox range features 3 different knives, intended to complement one another over a wide range of uses.

Classic Alox Limited Edition 2021

The smallest of the 3, the Classic Alox is just 58mm long, with a small blade, scissors and file.

In theory, you can keep this one on your keychain and take it anywhere, including I believe through flight security. Don’t quote me on that though if you end up getting arrested and taken to Guantanamo Bay!

Pioneer X Alox Limited Edition 2021

The Pioneer, as the name suggests, is the original Swiss Army Knife. Based on the 1961 “Soldier” knife, it’s more or less identical to the knife that’s been issued to the Swiss Army for the last 70 years. Definitely a classic.

Pioneer Features:

  1. large blade
  2. scissors
  3. reamer, punch
  4. can opener
  5. screwdriver 3 mm
  6. bottle opener
  7. screwdriver 7.5 mm
  8. wire stripper
  9. key ring

At 93mm long, and just under 100g this is a great option for everyday carry.

Hunter Pro Alox Limited Edition 2021

The Hunter Pro is a new addition to the Alox range.

With a 22.54cm locking blade, definitely don’t try to carry this one on a plane! It is a very nice looking blade though, I probably don’t really need another knife but… The matching paracord lanyard is a nice touch too.

What no Huntsman?

While claiming that the Tiger Orange evokes power, enthusiasm and excitement might be taking it a bit far, I must confess that the Alox Limited Edition 2021 rage does look pretty nice.

It’s just a shame that there aren’t more knives available in the range. Personally, my favourite Victorinox is the Huntsman. The addition of the saw and the corkscrew are pretty indispensable for me, so no matter how invigorating the Tiger Orange, I wouldn’t be tempted by the Pioneer.

Imagine you got kidnapped? Not only would you not be able to saw through the ropes, you wouldn’t be able to open a bottle of wine to celebrate your escape afterwards either!

Perhaps though if you stick to drinking beer, the 3 knife combo could work. The Hunter Pro certainly looks like it could get you out of a bind.

The Victorinox Alox Limited Edition 2021 range is available now here.
