After having consecrated Blackyack in almost every jacket categories, it’s time to look at the ISPO 2016 gold awards for the outdoor equipment and accessories. This year, the jury awarded the Auroco Epic as the best mountaineering equipment. The device is used by climbers by fixing it to walls or anchor points, thus enabling a safe and efficient ascent. The Auroco Epic even features a wireless remote to control it!
The Auroro Epic
In the Lighting & Energy category, the gold award went to SMART LUXX and its bike light kit. The kit uses a smartphone’s flash to light both sides of the bike, an innovative concept that finds the ultimate synergy between your sports gear and your smartphone. In the Tent & Recreation category, the NeoAir Camper SV by Therm-a-rest was considered product of the year. The air mattress features a SpeedValve which uses surrounding air to inflate the mattress in 1/3 of the time it would take for a regular mattress. A definitive advantage if you plan to pack it on an high altitude trip! Last but not least, the gold award winner in the Hydration Systems category is the LifeStraw Steel. The LifeStraw is durable and can filter up to 1.000 liters of water without any electrical power!
The NeoAir Camper SV
As for the silver awards, the Polar Endurance 3 from Fjällräven made quite an impression. The tent is designed to be used in cold climates like arctic winter expeditions. With a focus on durability, the Polar Endurance 3 is a product that will last during your most extreme expeditions. In the accessories category, the CaVida FlexStraps provide adjustable tension belts (with a 1.10mm length that you can extend as desired).

The Fenix CL25R was awarded best Lighting & Energy product. With its cold-resistant design (that can withstand temperatures up to -40°C), the lamp provides 350 lumens of illumination. The Moutaineering Equipment of the year was awarded to 3 different products : two from the brand Petzl (the ALTITUDE harness and the LEOPARD LLF crampons) and one from the German brand Edelrid (the OHM assisted-braking resistor).
The Leatherman TREAD
Let’s end this list with a product that particularly impressed us : the Leatherman TREAD is an all-in-one tool, designed as a wearable bracelet that contains multiple tools (Allen wrenches, screwdrivers, box wrenches). The bracelet is adjustable to your wrist size, and will certainly be handy thanks to its extreme portability.
