Columbia enter the bug war with new Insect Blocker tech

There are a few things that make for good summer gear: breathable, lightweight, quick to dry and insect repellent. Let’s be honest, trekking while being bitten left right and center is not fun and more and more companies are coming up with their own tech to change that. At Columbia they call it Insect Blocker.

Instead of going for an added treatment to their apparel like a repellent spray, which wears off after a few wash, Columbia managed to find a way to build it into the product. This new tech is said to be a synthesised version of a naturally occurring insect repellent and is directly integrated into the fabric.

The guys at Columbia are telling us Insect Blocker can repel mosquitoes, flies, ticks, ants, chiggers and because it is part of the gear it does not need to be reapplied and can still protect you after 70 washings.

The new range of Insect Blocker includes travel shirts, trousers/convertibles, tops and socks for the whole family. Most of those also come with Omni-Shade sun protection and Omni-Wick advanced evaporation (we’re having a travel shirt with the last two in review soon). That would make for a very complete jungle kit wouldn’t it?
