Icebreaker soon sister company of The North Face and SmartWool

In a press release published yesterday, VF Corporation announced they have reached a definitive purchase agreement with Icebreaker, to be completed in early 2018.

Icebreaker, founded in 1995 by Jeremy Moon, now sells $150 million in Merino wool, plant-based fibers and recycled fibers based products. Based in Auckland, New Zealand, Icebreaker pioneered Merino wool for performance apparel and is now selling in 47 countries.

VF Corporation was founded in 1899 and has a diverse portfolio of lifestyle and outdoors brands including Vans, The North Face, SmartWool and Timberland.

Our partnership with VF provides us with the largest platform in the world to tell our story, access new markets and reach new consumers at an accelerated pace. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our global Icebreaker® brand team and for our wool suppliers to introduce a whole new universe of consumers to the benefits of sustainably farmed, ethically sourced, New Zealand Merino wool.

Said Jeremy Moon.

We are all big fans of Icebreaker and Merino in general here at Gear Exposure. This is a big news for the industry but we are not expecting any major changes right away with Icebreaker.
