Show me how to do it!
Step 1: Preparation
Create a folder somewhere on you computer. This is where we will put everything. Plug your phone in your computer using the phone-to-usb cable. Set the phone in storage mode (when you can browse the content of the sd-card like a usb stick). Locate the GPX file in the “GPS Logger” folder and copy-paste it to this folder we’ve just created.
Step 2: Download exif data editor
Download the exif data editor from Phil Harvey’s website. This is needed by geotag to update the exif data of the pictures. You don’t need to run the exe file, just download it and place it the folder.
Step 3: Setup Geotag
Run Geotag, either from the website (orange “launch” button on the right hand side) or from the file if you have downloaded it. It will probably prompt you with a message saying that the exif editor cannot be located. Close the error window, go to File > Settings > External Programs > Exif Tool and click on Exif Tool Path.
You will see at the bottom of the window a text field where you can type in the path. You can also click on the “…” button on its right to point Geotag to the location of the exif tool (the file we’ve download in step 2).
Step 4: Load your pictures in Geotag
Now we have to tell Geotag where to find the pictures. Very easy, just go to File, Add images from directory and pic the directory where your pictures are located.
Step 5: Load GPX file
The last file we need is the GPX file containing the location data. Go to File, Load tracks from file.
Step 6: Match locations and pictures
Now to add the location to the pictures, right click on the list of pictures, select “Find Location” then “for all images”. The software should match the location times and the picture times and fill in the location column.
Then go to File, Save location, all images and Geotag will start adding the locations to the pictures one by one. This takes a bit of time depending on how many pictures you are tagging.
When Geotag has finished you can close it, your pictures are now geotagged! You will also find a backup of the pictures in their folder just in case something went wrong. Enjoy.
